95-97/100 Jeb Dunnuck Jeb Dunnuck 13/05/2025 One of the wines of the vintage, if not the wine of the vintage, the 2024 Château Mouton Rothschild checks in as a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot, hitting 12.9% alcohol and a pH of 3.71, that's resting in 100% new barrels. It sports a dense purple hue as well as absolutely rocking aromatics of blackcurrants, freshly sharpened pencils, graphite, and smoked tobacco. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a layered, opulent mouthfeel, velvety tannins, ample mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's an incredible achievement in the vintage that will need just 4-6 years of bottle age and have a broad, lengthy drinking window. Hats off to technical director Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy and the entire Mouton team. 93-95/100 The Wine Independent Lisa Perrotti-Brown 12/05/2025 Deep garnet-purple colored. Needs a little shaking to wake up notes of kirsch, black cherries, and fresh black currant, giving way to nuances of garrigue, iris, and crushed rocks with a hint of lavender oil. The light to medium-bodied palate is wonderfully elegant and fresh with ripe, fine-grained tannins and well-sustained fruit, finishing on a lingering minerally note. 97-98/100 Jamessuckling.com James Suckling 07/05/2025 This shows plenty of drive with dusty and creamy tannins that run the length of the wine and builds at the end. It’s medium-bodied showing a focus and energy. Dark currants and flowers flavor. This really has length and it has the depth to improve with age. 93% cabernet sauvignon and 7% merlot. 94-96/100 Vinous Neal Martin 05/05/2025 The 2024 Mouton Rothschild, which has a little more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, was picked between September 23 and October 5 and aged for 18 months in 100% new oak. This has an understated bouquet with blackberry, cedar and graphite scents that take their time to unfold. The nose possesses very fine delineation though the oak is a little more prominent at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied and quite linear in style with fine tannins. A less flamboyant Mouton Rothschild in keeping with the style of the vintage, the 2024 discretely gains depth towards the finish and reveals a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. Classy, very classy. 93-95/100 Vinous Antonio Galloni 30/04/2025 The 2024 Mouton Rothschild is embryonic. Dark, powerful and imposing, the 2024 is deeply intriguing, but also a wine that is going to need time to be at its best. Today, the tannins feel a bit brooding, the wine's mid-weight structure notwithstanding. The 100% new oak needs to integrate, but this is a barrel sample. 95-97/100 The Wine Cellar Insider Jeff Leve 30/04/2025 Cigar box, flowers, black currants, blackberries, espresso, licorice, spice box, and forest leaves initiate the wine's complex aromatics. On the palate, the wine is almost creamy, exhibiting freshness, energy, length, and purity. This upbeat wine is chalky, complex, and enhanced with sweetness, an array of spices, and more of those juicy, fresh currants in the refreshing, mint-tinged finish. I particularly enjoy the Indian spice notes that emerge at the backend of the finish. The wine consists of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. Only 2010 had a higher percentage of Cabernet in the blend. 12.9% ABV, 3.77 pH. 44.5% of the harvest was placed into the Grand Vin. The harvest took place September 23 - October 5. Drink from 2030-2060. 96-98/100 Alexandre Ma Alexandre Ma 29/04/2025 One can clearly see how ruthlessly meticulous Mouton has been in its grape selection. Without such precision, it would be unthinkable to find this level of clarity and ideal ripeness in a rainy vintage like 2024. The warm, toasty aromas of roasted sunflower seeds and almonds smooth the edges of the wine, pressing gently against the palate like graphite polished again and again – quiet in tone, yet full of inner strength. Aromas of dried black plum and fresh blueberry are not ostentatious, but they leave a delicate emotion lingering between lips and tongue. 2024 is not a vintage that dazzles with flamboyant fruit aromas. Instead, it persuades with its elevated texture and quiet depth. In the interplay of light and shadow, the winemaker’s mastery comes through with quiet confidence. In recent years, the estate has become increasingly focused on the purity of Cabernet Sauvignon. In the relatively restrained 2024 vintage, it has chosen to interpret its unique understanding of Cabernet Sauvignon in a near “neoclassical” style: nothing forced, nothing overstated, only a soft-spoken elegance that invites contemplation with every gesture. 95-97/100 The Drink Business Colin Hay 28/04/2025 Cedar, but a little less at this early stage then Le Petit Mouton. But is still gives a sense of how this will evolve aromatically. A lovely hint of rose petal too. And redder berry fruits too. But then we find, above all with aeration, cassis, bramble, mulberry and black currant – very, very Cabernet! A little introvert at this stage, this is all about fruit purity. I find this beguiling and enticing in equal measure, incredibly pure, precise, focussed and then crystalline in the mouth. Here we find the darker stone fruits – damson and cherry and a hint of the cedar to come. There’s more density than Le Petit Mouton and more forward momentum too. Impressively substantial, again spherical at the core but pushing into the cheeks, so with considerable amplitude and a density and concentration largely absent elsewhere. Very aerial on the finish with a lovely Cabernet menthol lift. Incredibly long. This feels exceptionally classy and achieves a greatness in a vintage where that is extremely rare. A genuine vin de garde. 91-93/100 Wine Advocate William Kelley 25/04/2025 Harvested between September 23 and October 5, the 2024 Mouton Rothschild is a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot that attained 12.9% alcohol. Offering up aromas of crème de cassis, cigar wrapper and pencil shavings, it's medium to full-bodied, dense and layered, with a muscular, monolithic style built around austere, chalky tannins. Somewhat reminiscent of the estate's 2001 vintage (which is just coming around today at age 24), this structured, youthfully angular Mouton will require patience. 94/100 Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux Jane Anson 25/04/2025 Savoury and juicy, this is full of crushed rose petals, generosity of spirit even if it shows the austerity of the vintage, wrapped by bitter chocolate, cloves and spiced rosemary. Slate texture, delicious and understated, with clear ageing capacity. 3.71ph,give a good eight to ten years before drinking. Harvest 23 September to 5 October. 3.71 pH. 100% new oak. 96/100 Falstaff Peter Moser 25/04/2025 Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Fine cassis, black cherries, orange blossom, nougat, very inviting bouquet. Full-bodied, black cherries, ripe, silky tannins, structured with finesse, displays a very good length, a balanced, delicate Mouton with 12.9% Vol. alcohol, a real promise for the future. (100% new wood).
