Beschreibung
teams, led by Caroline Frey, have implemented virtuous practices to preserve this superb terroir and the health of the men and women who work there: the vineyard has been certified organic since late 2016 and has obtained Biodyvin certification for its biodynamic practices. This natural and plot by plot approach plays a fundamental role in the quality of the wines.
The 2024 vintage :
The 2024 vintage was shaped by challenging weather conditions, with persistent spring humidity followed by a more typical summer. Despite significant disease pressure and a hailstorm in May, the harvest—carried out from September 23 to October 9—yielded grapes at perfect maturity. The cool September led to wines with beautiful freshness, driven by fruit expression and featuring a more supple tannic structure than recent, warmer vintages.

The 2024 La Lagune takes a little time to coalesce in the glass, but a mélange of red and black fruit, cedar and cigar box emerge with time and lend more complexity. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and relatively forward with sweet ripe tannins. What is missing is a bit of grip and nuance on the finish, though it is fresh and there is a pleasant dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. Give it two or three years.

The 2024 La Lagune is a rich, deep wine. Dark-toned fruit, new leather, scorched earth, graphite and dried herbs all run through this potent, expressive Haut-Médoc. The tannins still need time to come together, but there is enough depth and overall pedigree for that to happen. Although it is not especially showy today, La Lagune has a good bit of potential. Tasted two times.

Black cherries, tobacco, smoke, licorice, flowers, and red currants show in the perfume. Medium-bodied, soft, forward, and fruity, the vibrant, fresh, classic wine will be charming on release, and for at least 12-15 years after that. Drink from 2027-2040.

Radiantly aerial aromatically, with more lift than the other wines of the appellation and that floral touch that reminds one we’re near the appellation boundary with Margaux – something only t found elsewhere in this vintage at nearby Cantemerle. But this is a different kind of florality, more vivid and bright and lifted – white spring flowers freshly plucked from the hedgerow. As ever this feels very natural and I love the cedary notes in the depths of the mid-palate. This is one of the rare wines of the appellation with depth and layering in the mid-palate. Plump, plush and juicy; succulent, fresh and lifted on the finish. Vivid in a way that few achieve in the vintage. Very fine, refined, natural and harmonious.

Château La Lagune’s interpretation of the 2024 vintage shows a humble respect and reverence for nature. While the maturity may not be perfect, the wine remains composed, presenting vibrant and intricate characteristics, alongside the resilient vitality imparted by biodynamic practices. Juicy strawberries and cherries, framed by high acidity, release a refreshing clarity, while the smooth tannins from the gentle extraction become the wine’s most captivating feature, subtly lifting the entire body without disrupting its refined structure.

I entertained higher expectations for the 2024 La Lagune, a light to medium-bodied, ephemeral wine redolent of minty plums and loamy soil. Perhaps it will perform better in bottle.

Attractive leafy aromatics, juicy and chalky, this is tasty, old school, charming. These are not generous Cabernets but they have finesse and balance. Earlier drinking than recent vintages at La Lagune, this provides a great window into the skilful winemaking going on at this dynamic estate, owned by Caroline Frey. Harvest 23 September to 9 October. 50% new oak. 3.4 pH.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Delicate leafy notes of wild black berries, liquorice, tobacco nuances. Medium complexity, red berry texture, fresh, ripe tannins, mineral and good persistence, has ageing potential.
