Süsses aldbeerbouquet, Lakritze und duftige Veilchen, dahinter etwas Kokos und Cassisdrops. Am burschikosen Gaumen zeigt er viel Eleganz und endet mit Brombeere und Strauchnoten. It is being matured in 60% new oak barrels. It has a very succinct bouquet, with a mixture of black and red fruit, a slight sea spray/estuarine tincture, hints of leather and brown spice in the background. The palate is very harmonious on the entry with a grainy texture. There is good backbone here, maybe just a little foursquare compared to other Saint Julien wines, but it gathers pace towards the finish that displays touches of spice and cedar. Understated and classic Langoa. 4/27/2017 The Wine Cellar Insider THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER (JEFF LEVE) : 91-93 / 100 Bursts of tangy little currants, a cedar wood fire sends out smoke plumes of cassis scented tobacco into a damp forest, leading you to a polished, fresh, bright, crisp and crunchy blast of red berries. The finish offers length and lift in a classic style. From a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, the wine reached 13% alcohol. The harvest took place from September 20 to October 13. 4/26/2017 Vinous VINOUS (ANTONIO GALLONI) : 90-93 / 100 The 2016 Langoa Barton is soft, pliant and absolutely delicious. Succulent red cherry, rose petal, lavender, mocha and sweet spice fill out the wine's mid-weight frame effortlessly. Succulent and inviting, the 2016 is terrific today. The 2016 is marked by its energy and freshness, much of that the result of the Cabernet Franc, which is on the higher end of the range by historical standards. Langoa continues its ascent with determination and élan. The freshness and brightness here is gripping and it is awash with juicy, layered, succulent fruit. There are some slightly more concentrated coulis fruit notes here which make it a particularly exciting. I feel that this vintage has the edge on the 2015 because of its length and taut finish. Overall this is a very balanced, classically-dimensioned wine with a little extra dimension of mystery while keeping its alcohol strictly under control 17.5+ 4/24/2017 Decanter.com DECANTER.COM (JANE ANSON) : 94 / 100 This is a controlled, confident and elegant demonstration of the appellation in this vintage. Coffee grounds on the nose and through the mid palate with tight, cassis-drenched fruits, cedar and menthol, ticking those St-Julien boxes. Drinking Window 2027 - 2050 4/21/2017 Robinson JANCIS ROBINSON (JANCIS ROBINSON) : 17,5 / 20 Exceptionally dark purple. Very meaty, concentrated nose with real lift. Lots of graphite and grit. No spare flesh but truly terroir wine. Sinewy. Bone-dry finish. Very much in its own style. But long and precise. 4/19/2017 Wine Enthusiast WINE ENTHUSIAST (ROGER VOSS) : 94-96 / 100 Barrel Sample. From one of the three chateaus owned by the Barton family, this wine is showing its pedigree. It has elegance as well as structured tannins, ripe blackberry fruits and ample acidity. It is likely to age well over the medium term. 4/10/2017 Wine Spectator WINE SPECTATOR (JAMES MOLESWORTH) : 93-96 / 100 The fresh blueberry, cherry and black currant flavors give this a wide range, while racy graphite and a mouthwatering anise streak drive the finish.
