5/3/2017 Bettane & Desseauve BETTANE & DESSEAUVE ( BETTANE & DESSEAUVE) : 94-95 / 100 Très généreux et d’un caractère plus « nordique » que ses voisins, ce qui semble naturel si les meilleures parcelles de Saint-Seurin sont dans l’assemblage ! 5/2/2017 Martin WINE ADVOCATE (NEAL MARTIN) : 91-93 / 100 The 2016 La Tour Carnet is a blend of 60% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc that was picked between 4 and 21 October. Matured in 30% new oak, it has more freshness and delineation than the Château des Grands Chênes that I tasted alongside, touches of blue fruit and floral scents lending it a Margaux-like personality. The palate is smooth and velvety on the entry with fine tannin, lush and precocious yet maintaining fine freshness and precision on the finish. Its texture is nigh irresistible. It is excellent, though will it surpass the 2015? 4/27/2017 The Wine Cellar Insider THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER (JEFF LEVE) : 90-92 / 100 Dark in hue with loads of fruit, density and a fruity, concentrated, round textured, fleshy finish. 4/26/2017 Vinous VINOUS (ANTONIO GALLONI) : 89-92 / 100 Bernard Magrez's 2016 La Tour Carnet is ripe, open-knit and seductive. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, licorice, woodsmoke and tobacco are all beautifully delineated in the glass. A wine of striking inner perfume, sweetness and nuance, the 2016 Tour Carnet has all the elements to develop into a superb overachiever. Sweet, silky tannins add to the wine's considerable sexiness. This is the first vintage made in the new winery, where smaller tanks allowed for the separate vinification of multiple lots. The reduction in new oak is another big positive here. Bernard Magrez makes a number of terrific wines. La Tour Carnet is one of my favorites because of its budget friendly price and the way it ages in bottle. Tasted two times. 4/25/2017 Decanter.com DECANTER.COM (JANE ANSON) : 92 / 100 Straight from the first nose we feel the extraction, the drama, the confidence. This is clean and crisp through the mid-palate, with crushed blackberry, liquorice, dark chocolate and tobacco notes. A strong showing from La Tour Carnet, there is no doubt you are in Magrez territory, but he is delivering on his signature with a flourish. It's a good wine, and tasted even better second time around at the UGCs. Drinking Window 2025 - 2045 4/25/2017 Jukes MATTHEWJUKES.COM (MATTHEW JUKES) : 16 / 20 There is some lovely fruit here and it seems a lot juicier and more polished than in the last few vintages. With no obvious oak or astringency to knock the fruit off course, this is a good wine. 16 4/20/2017 Robinson JANCIS ROBINSON (JANCIS ROBINSON) : 17 / 20 Glowing very dark crimson. Attractive 'mineral' quality on the nose. Very comfortable and unforced. Perhaps it could do with a little more energy but the texture is great. Lovely mouthfeel with no shortage of tannin. 17- 4/19/2017 Wine Enthusiast WINE ENTHUSIAST (ROGER VOSS) : 93-95 / 100 Barrel Sample. This is a rich wine, packed with tannins that contrast the fresh acidity and black currant fruit. It's a solid wine that's constructed to age. 4/10/2017 Wine Spectator WINE SPECTATOR (JAMES MOLESWORTH) : 87-90 / 100 Direct, with good typicity to the mix of plum pit, black cherry and cedar notes, showing a flash of iron on the slightly austere finish.—J.M. 4/5/2017 Jamessuckling.com JAMESSUCKLING.COM (JAMES SUCKLING) : 92-93 / 100 A linear and pretty wine with plenty of blackberry aromas and flavors to complement a tight and chewy tannin structure. Medium to full body and a bright finish. More structured than the 2015.
